Lagaan is a 2001 Indian historical sports drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan stars as Bhuvan, an elder peasant farmer whose village, a small settlement in the Kachchh area, is suffering from the oppressive colonial British rule.
To settle a longstanding debt to the land-owning Janardhan (Raghuveer Yadav), Bhuvan agrees to participate in the village cricket match. He makes up the team, which consists of himself and his three friends, employing a young boy as their wicket-keeper and arm-pit bowler.

Dangal is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari, written by Prasoon Joshi. It stars Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari.
The former became India’s first female wrestler to win at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where she won the gold medal (55 kg). Her sister Babita Kumari won the silver (51 kg). Aamir Khan will also be seen playing the role of a wrestler coach in the film.
