I have one of those old-fashioned washer and dryer shelves in my kitchen.
I use mine for hanging laundry, and I know others who use theirs for storage. What I don’t know is if I should.
I have a dryer that I got about five years ago from a friend who had it built for him. It works great and the washer is the same as the dryer. But I think I will look into a washer/dryer combo. Some people have a hard time knowing when to use a washer or dryer. I think a combo would be much more efficient.
A washer/dryer combo can be a lifesaver. Especially if you have a washer that gets a lot of water per load, and a dryer that can be set up to take both loads, you’ll be glad you have them. I’ve had a washer I had for about 10 years that I got about 3 years ago that I liked so I added a dryer to it. Now I am happy with my new dryer.
I have an old washer (actually a pre-2000 one), and a very old dryer. I have them both on my bookshelf. I love them both, but I think the washer is the more of a chore than the dryer. I have a couple of washers that I keep stored in the garage, but my washer dryer is the one that is the most used.
The washer is a big space hog, and the dryer is a little more energy efficient. The real difference is that the dryer does not have a back, but the washer does. It is more difficult to keep the washer and dryer together, and it requires a lot more maintenance, but the washer is the one that gets the most use.
I’m not sure how this is a chore, but it’s definitely a pain to clean. The dryer is also very loud. It’s loud enough that when I walk into a room, I have to turn the volume down to avoid being deafened. I have a friend who is a little deaf and he says that he can’t stand it. The dryer tends to make noise for about 15 minutes after I turn it on.
The dryer is also quite loud, which is more the problem than the washer. Both the washer and dryer need to be cleaned regularly.
I agree that it is a pain to run a washer and dryer together. The most common problem is that they both leave the tub or shower dirty, and with too much water left over from the previous cycle, the washer will become so dirty that it won’t clean itself. A washer with very little water left over will get so dirty that unless you are careful, it will become a major mess.
A washer that runs really hot will be more prone to getting “dirty” than a non-hot dryer. This is because the steam created by the high water temperature is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. When you run your dryer, it will leave your home feeling a little dusty, but when you run your washer, it will leave your home smelling like nothing, and you have no control over that.
