Cryptokeys is a game that may seem impossible at first, but with a little bit of practice you can get the hang of it. The game is simple in theory, but hard to master- all you have to do is recognize which keys control which colors and when they’re lit up. You use your keyboard arrow keys to move from key to key, and then press the corresponding color button on your keyboard to change colors. This post will present 11 tips that can help you get better at Cryptokeys.
You can’t get good at a game just by reading a blog post. You need to practice, practice, practice! Playing the game is the only way you can tell what looks right and what doesn’t, so keep playing until you’re familiar with how the colors move and where they end up. The game begins slowly, but speeds up as you progress- keep practicing until you feel comfortable enough to handle multiple colors.
2. Understand Colors That Join Together
There are places on the screen where two colors join together, and they move together like a pair of Siamese twins (seriously though, it’s cool). When you move from one to the other, both of the colors change and you need to hit both keys at once.
3. Be Careful
Don’t rely too much on the color wheel! That can lead to mistakes. The wheel shows you what colors are coming up next, but doesn’t show when to hit the keys because it’s not a time-based warning- it’s just a visual aid for keeping track of which is which. When you’re learning, try focusing on hitting them yourself rather than relying on the color wheel.
4. Look For Patterns
When I started Cryptokeys my scores were atrocious, so I had to find ways to improve my skills quickly. One tip I used was to form patterns in the order of the color wheel, and then just hit all of them. This helped me make progress without having to look up keys.
5. Practice, Practice, Practice!
Cryptokeys is a hard game (at least at first), so it’ll take you a long time to get good at it- this is 100% normal and expected. Don’t give up on a bad run just because you’re frustrated- keeping up with the game will help you master it soon enough. If you’re having trouble keep coming back after a break and trying again- practice makes perfect!
6. Understand When To Press Color Keys
If you can master the game well enough, you’ll often find yourself in a situation where you know when to hit which key. Don’t mess this up- if you miss a color and it’s already going, wait until it slows down before pressing the keys! If you hit the wrong keys too early, your score will likely drop significantly.
7. Watch Out For Special Keys
The special keys are red and blue buttons that pop up occasionally on the screen. They appear at random places, and either button will change one of your light colors into dark (the opposite color). When that happens, you need to hit both keys at once.
Have fun! This game can be frustrating at first, but just keep practicing and you’ll master it within no time. Try out these tips and let me know how this goes for you in the comments below!
8. Check Out Other Guides
There are many guides created here on Reddit that help with Cryptokeys, like this one , or this one. You can also check out the Cryptokeys subreddit for more info and to see what other people have made to help with the game!
9. If You Can’t Beat Stage 20, You’re Doing Something Wrong
I wanted to include a quick tip for getting a really high score- it’s just stage 20 of the game, but if you can’t pass it feel free to skip this step. It’s much easier than it looks (although still VERY hard). How do you get such a high score? By turning on the lasers in the options menu . These lasers appear randomly during your play and will give you double points for pressing them (except for the last one). The lasers are green buttons on either side of the screen that light up when they’re active. They appear after about 5 rounds, and then 30 seconds later disappear again.
10. I Don’t Know Your Game Difficulty
I’m really bad at this and I can’t play for long, if you have a better suggestion for the difficulty level that would also be nice.
11. I Don’t Know If You Can Do This Effect On An Android/iPhone
It should work on Android and iOS, but I never had these devices so I don’t know for sure. If anyone does know, please let me know if you’re able to do it! If you have any other tips or tricks, let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading guys!
Cryptokeys is a game in which you press the arrow keys to move from key to key, and then press the associated color button to change your lights. You must do this quickly or else you’ll lose points.
These are not exclusive tips that will help you beat Cryptokeys– they’re just some things that I learned while I was playing through it over and over again!
