September is just around the corner, which means that you might be preparing to make major purchases for your home. Maybe you’re picking up a new mattress, furniture set, or painting found on one of these sites of art van tawas.

These websites will teach you practically anything — from starting a blog to art in Berlin — at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home.

1. Art Van Furniture

Art Van Furniture is an American home furnishing store, selling furniture and home items in the United States. The stores carry a large number of items including dining room , bedroom, entertainment, and kids’ furniture. The company was started by Dutch entrepreneur Jan and Thamm Meeuwsen in 1950 as a family business that sold copper cooking pots, serving platters and decorative copper and bronze objects. The parent company’s name is Vroom Vroom Industries-Always Has Been and Still Will Be a Family Business (Vroom Vroom Industries) / Art Van Furniture Company (Art Van Furniture Company), although neither name appears on their website itself.

2. Amazon.com

Amazon.com is an American electronic commerce and cloud computing company, founded in July 4, 1994 by Jeff Bezos, who became its CEO, and was later the largest Internet retailer in the world. It is based in Seattle, Washington. The firm is the largest online retailer in terms of revenue, with 28 percent of all e-retail sales in the United States (as of 2011). The company also produces consumer electronics—notably the Kindle e-reader—and is a major provider of cloud infrastructure services—Web services delivered as a utility (much like electricity or natural gas). Amazon’s revenue was estimated to be $178 billion for Q4 FY2013.

3. EBay for Good

eBay for Good is made up of sellers that you can link to your Amazon wishlist. By clicking the “Add to Wish List” button, you will be able to save items in your shopping cart until you decide what you’d like to buy or use. Once you deem the items complete, it will automatically add them to your Amazon wishlist.

4. Diapers.com

Diapers.com is an online retailer of diapers and baby products that has a large customer base in the United States as well as in Europe and Australia – and they have a mobile app as well! They offer free shipping on orders over $49 (or $74 on weekends) and free same-day shipping on orders $35+.

5. Macys

Macy’s, originally R.H. Macy & Co., is a department store chain owned by Macy’s, Inc. It is one of two department store chains owned by the company, with the other being Bloomingdale’s, originally named “Bloomingdale Bros.” The company first began in 1858 as a dry goods store located in New York City; Macy took on employees James Abraham Morgan, who had started his own dry goods business at the time of the store’s foundation; and Rowland Hussey Macy was its first president. The name was shortened to simply “Macy” in 1894 and grew over time to become known as Macy’s.

6. Target

Target Corporation is the second-largest discount retailer in the United States, behind Walmart, and a component of the S&P 500 Index. Founded by George Dayton and headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the company was originally named Goodfellow Dry Goods in June 1902 before being renamed the Dayton’s Dry Goods Company in 1903 and later the Dayton Company in 1910. The first Target store opened in Roseville, Minnesota on February 6, 1962 while the parent company was renamed the Dayton Corporation in 1967. It became the Dayton-Hudson Corporation after merging with Hudson’s, Inc. and the company changed its name to the present Target Corporation in 1978.

7. Zappos.com

Zappos.com is a website owned by Amazon and provides online shoe shopping services for customers of Amazon. Customers can access their shopping cart and make selections for desired items, as well as optionally preview, compare and add products to their cart before purchasing them. In addition, “Zappos Rewards” members can earn points by making qualifying purchases through the site on a frequent basis, including orders that they have received free shipping on or orders over $50 (this is in addition to any points that they would earn or award as part of an affiliate relationship).

8. Boston Marathon Bombings
