The ancient Egyptians were responsible for creating bread, horse riding(equus), brewing grains and brewing beer. It is also reported that they were responsible for the domestication of chickens (a great source of meat and eggs) and the cultivation of corn.

However, the most important contribution that ancient Egypt made to Middle Eastern cuisine was the creation of bread. In fact, it is a common misconception that bread originated in Egypt.

3. Middle Eastern Food Customs

As mentioned above, the most prominent contributions (Egyptian) to the culture of Middle Eastern food are its historical customs and traditions. The following introduction will provide you with a brief overview of these customs and traditions:

Islam (In Islam certain things can only be done during certain times of day) rests on specific rituals that must be followed in sequence during specific times as well as certain etiquette rules to maintain cleanliness when eating food and presenting it before God in prayer. Bismillah (In Arabic, it means, “In the name of Allah”) is a blessing that is prayed before eating any food. God’s blessings are believed to be the best that you can get.  It is also customary to wash your hands before eating and after using the toilet.

Shaytan (The Devil) If a person feels as though they have been cheated in some way, they will yell out ‘Ya Allah’ (I swear by God).
