All in all, it’s a pretty nice party. It’s nice to see a communist government finally embracing the liberal ideals of the American Revolution. A few years ago, my Chinese boyfriend told me that the Chinese government was going to take over Hong Kong and the rest of China. We thought that was an exaggeration, but now it’s official. No one is allowed to protest or hold a rally without government approval.
But the same government has a long history of opposing the idea of an open and free society. The Cultural Revolution is the best example of this, except that this time the government was a lot more brutal. Its a good thing that the Chinese government is now embracing a new form of government, because the communist party is only going to get more extreme.

The problem for the Chinese government now is that it doesn’t have to deal with a mass death like the Cultural Revolution. So in addition to a government that’s embracing an open society, it’s also embracing a more militant form of control.

The party is now in power in China, but its leaders have to hold a public meeting every year to select a new leader. There are also many communist parties in the world, and every single one of them wants to go even more extreme. The leaders of these parties are constantly demanding that their followers go to their extreme version of communism.
