If you’ve ever been to a pet surgery clinic, you know that the animals are in full body cast and sedated; their tails and ears are tied and immobilized; and all of their limbs are taped to the table. That’s essentially what it feels like to be a pet surgeon. That’s how I felt while helping our cat out of the box.
One of the biggest complaints we see from clients is the lack of control their pet has over them when they’re out of the cage. One of the things we often hear is that our dogs are “too independent”, and that they will be off-leash with their owners if they want to. It’s not uncommon for people to be worried their dog or cat will injure themselves or hurt someone else.
It might make sense to think that a dog or cat who’s been neutered will have a better chance of being able to function independently. Maybe that’s why so many owners put the collar around their dog’s neck, and why cats are more common than dogs. Maybe cats have more spunk than dogs, who are just as likely to run around in a circle chasing anything that moves.
I’d be willing to bet a lot of pet owners wear a collar on a daily basis, because it gives their dogs or cats a good visual example of what to expect. We all know that cats like to keep their tails up high so they can see their owner, and dogs like to keep their tails low so they can keep a good distance between them and their owner, and its also reasonable to think that owners want their pet to be able to function independently.
The idea of pet surgery is that it’s a way to help pets function better in their own world. We can also be confident that the results will help the pet owner to feel more in control of their pet. In fact, one of the most common reasons for surgery is to cure a pet of some condition. This is very rare though.
I have a pet dog that is a mix between a wolf and a dog, and I think that he has a condition where he can’t stand up on his own. He also has some other medical issues that I don’t think that he’s ever had to solve on his own. So I would agree that there are cases where surgery is a good way to help a pet. I’ve never had one myself though.
Sure, there are people who love their dog and don’t want them to have surgery, but that’s because it’s not something they can control. We all want our dogs to be perfect, but it’s a lot harder to know what will work for a pet than it is for us. My dog is a mix between a wolf and a dog, and I believe he has a condition where he cant stand up on his own.
I think pets can really improve your life for the better; not only is surgery a great way to get to know your dog better, but it can also help you have a happier life. Although, you might want to research this a bit before trying surgery on your pet.
I think vets should be as much in tune with their pet as the pet should be with the vet. As we know from our own experiences, having a pet that is under your control is a lot more scary than having one that is not. Your best friend is your best friend no matter what.
