This is my favorite way to clean out my garden. I grab a hose, a bucket, and a basket on my back porch and head out to my garden. I pour the contents of my garden into my bin and let them sit in that for the next several hours. The worms, bugs, and other critters that are attracted to my garden will begin to move out with the compost, while the garden’s more succulent plants will start to turn a richer shade of green.
It’s important to note that this does not mean that my backyard is clean. My yard always retains its full complement of insects and other critters. The worms and bugs that have left my yard are the ones that have simply moved on to another garden. If you want the garden to be clean, you have to leave it and start over.
Pulling out the compost is a bit like pulling weeds. The good news is that the composting is a slow process that takes from two weeks to three weeks. The bad news is that your yard is now full of bugs. Insects are attracted to the composting process and then you have to wait for them to find your garden. The good news is that the bugs will not be too much of a problem for you, but the bad news is that they can eat your plants.
If you leave the compost for too long, the bugs will eat your plants. And if you use a shovel and dig in the dirt with it, all of your plants will be eaten, too.

Sure, I can see the appeal of a compost pile. However, I don’t think it’s necessary. The more you use your compost pile, the more carbon you can extract from the soil, and the more you can use. A compost pile is something you take from your garden. A compost pile is something you make. The more you keep growing, the more you can use.
I think it’s a great idea, but you can’t just keep growing because if you don’t use up the soil and the nutrients, your plants will die. Instead, you’d want to grow your own compost pile so you can use it without destroying the soil and nutrients. It’s not the same as growing your own plants, but it’s a step in the right direction.
I have never been a huge fan of growing your own food. As someone who is really good at digging, it can be hard to see what you are doing. Having your own compost pile is a great way to use up the stuff you have already dug.
