1. Athletic ability
Athletic ability is the most basic of all traits. In order to succeed in any sport, you have to have talent. Talent is important because it allows girls to freely be on their own without any social pressure or acceptance issues. The lack of societal pressure that girls feel on sports will cause them to take a long time before they make the decision to quit being social and go full into sports. The male side of things is much different because in school, males will be able to readily accept the fact that they are not cut out for certain sports and therefore accept the fact that they are a failure in those areas. However, studies show that boys are more likely than girls to persist trying after an initial failure.
Humans are hardwired to be competitive creatures. The more you compete, the more prepared you will be for whatever comes your way. Whether you are trying out for a team, going to games, or watching sports on TV…. it’s always great to have a good attitude when you are in sports.
3. Physical Ability
I know that I just said it was the most basic of all traits and that athletes just need to be talented, but physical ability is one of the most important concepts in sports because if you’re physically capable of playing sports and doing well overall, than you’re less likely to drop out due to injury or fatigue often caused by lack of sleep from lack of understanding how your body works. When athletes actually understand what their bodies are going through, they know how to take care of themselves despite any personal or physical issues.
4. Mental Ability
Athletes aren’t born with a mental disability. There is no excuse for not understanding how to properly warm up, stretch, and recover from a hard workout or long practice session. These are all things that anyone can learn and it’s the coaching that makes the difference between a good sports personality and a great one. One thing I’ve learned from my coaching experience is that no matter what your sport, there will always be people who try to cheat you out of success instead of learning to succeed like they should.
The last thing that you need is potential. Potential is a term that means that you have the ability to do something great with your life, but it’s up to you to make it happen. Potential can be found in every single person, but not all people discover their potential and make things happen. In fact, plenty of people quit after their potential has been revealed and they never get a chance to live up to it because they didn’t listen when we told them what they had done wrong or the kind of habits they needed to adopt in order to keep going when the first natural spurt of talent ran out.
6. Ability To Communicate
Women are notorious for not being good communicators. They don’t want to be seen and they don’t want people to see them, so they hide behind a facade of indifference. They will tear their hair out whenever someone is talking about what their abilities are and instead say that they have no idea. They will say things like “it doesn’t matter” or “there’s no way I could be as good as they are.” This isn’t because they are trying to hide anything, it’s simply because communication is different for everyone and not every girl is going to succeed at the same level.
7. Focus on goals
It’s important for every human being to have a goal but you must avoid the common mistake of wanting something that you can never achieve. For example, a good sports personality knows that they will eventually have to quit their sport when they get older. They understand that it’s still important to train hard now so that they can stick with the sport as long as possible. The infamous example of this is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who didn’t play basketball until he was 26 years old. He used those four years to study physics, become an expert at the sport by watching tapes and taking lessons, and go on to win a championship in the NBA at age 35!
Patience is especially crucial for women because we tend not to show our inner struggles and emotions. If we want to succeed, we have to be able to restrain our emotions and maintain a professional mindset as long as possible. This can be especially trying for a woman who is doing well in her sport. At some point she will reach the point where things are going fine, but instead of just enjoying that moment she has decided to come out with a temporary mental breakdown. This is exactly when you need your friends and family around you because they can pick up on it immediately and help you when it’s time to stop having the behavior. They also know where you’ve gone wrong if they’ve been able to understand what happened on a previous occasion.
While it’s important to understand all the different types of girls who are athletes, the much more important thing is to remember that all women athletes are unique individuals and they need to be treated with respect and as if they were as intelligent as the boys in their sports. You don’t have to pretend that you’re better than them and you don’t need to lie to yourself about how much of a failure you are, but you do have to be patient with them. They’ll get there when they get there.
